An attempt to deflect focus from UPA's many failures

This refers to the editorial, “Still brazening it out” (January 4). The Prime Minister should not have addressed this drab Press conference. He emerged from it no better than the assessment of his worst critics. It was a sad farewell speech by him, more so when Mr Manmohan Singh, while heading the UPA1 regime, had largely delivered the goods. The unexpected windfall of seats for UPA2 only opened up fault lines.

Mr Manmohan Singh soon lost grip on his prime ministerial oversight. Thereafter, indiscretions became the norm of the day. That UPA2 in its original form lasted for two long years, until late 2011, is a political miracle performed by a coalition Government, ably aided by an Opposition in disarray.
