Sir — This refers to the editorial, “So near and yet so far” (February 15). Behind VK Sasikala’s ambitions and her thirst for the chief ministerial post, stands her formidable family, infamous as the ‘Mannargudi mafia’, comprising many members, of whom at least four persons are prime movers.
Despite the setback caused by the Supreme Court verdict, and her resultant incarceration, if the plan to pitchfork her nominee EK Palaniswami into the Chief Minister’s chair succeeds, nothing would have changed for Tamil Nadu as a ‘remote’ may control the administration, and everything that goes with it.
Unless someone not connected to, or favoured by this family takes over as the Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu will slide to its worst ever nadir.
