All set to sail

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Ready for poll battle” (April 2). BJP president Rajnath Singh’s new team inspires confidence and raises hopes that the party is earnestly gearing up for the challenges ahead.

The judicious mix of youth and age is heartening, but as the editorial has pointed out, and rightly so, the BJP chief could have done better by including more experienced and senior leaders at the top of the hierarchy. They have been left out.

Moreover, one feels that too much of reliance on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will unnecessarily burden him with the results, which will be the outcome of many factors. This is not good for the party. Also, the performance of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is not being highlighted as strongly as that of Mr Modi, even though his winning record is equally impressive, and he is less controversial. But all said and done, the Assembly elections in some of the States, beginning with Karnataka, will give enough time to the BJP to take corrective steps for the 2014 poll battle.
