Sir — Actor Rajinikanth is in the limelight again; this time as a potential entrant into politics. Though, as usual, he is ambiguous about it. His assertion that he is a pachai thamizhan, though he is not, gives one the lead to believe that the actor has almost decided to plunge into politics. Stung by his decision to not align with any other party, particularly the BJP which was wooing him to join it, I saw one of the panel members belonging to the saffron party in a local television programme going hammer and tongs against Rajinikanth, reminding me of the ‘Fox and the grapes’ story. It was pathetic to find BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan lamenting that Rajinikanth should have included the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi also with the names of the four Tamil Nadu politicians viz MK Stalin, Thirumavalavan, Anbumani Ramadoss and Seeman.
If he is honest about doing something good for the people of Tamil Nadu, he should take a bold decision to align with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) under MK Stalin against whom there is no corruption or criminal charges. Rajinikanth himself has acknowledged that Stalin is a very good administrator. While it appears that the present All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government is on the verge of collapse, a shrewd Rajinikanth, instead of floating a new party and burning his fingers, both money-wise and reputation-wise, should support Stalin and help him form a strong and stable Government. He can take the place of the DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, who suffers from ill-health and remains as an adviser and guide to Stalin to run an efficient Government in the State.
