Sir — Mr Narendra Modi used to speak a very different language when he was campaigning for the lok Sabha election. But now, after becoming the Prime Minister, he simply avoids answering when he is asked for his opinion about his saffron friends’ conversion drive. Mr Modi is unable to even speak his mind on the subject.
Unfortunately, BJP spokesmen like Mr Sambit Patra has been left to defend rather sheepishly when they are faced with severe criticism on the matter. Most of us, even with or without a penchant towards Hindutva, are unhappy over the entire issue of conversions or re-conversions. Converting poor people under the garb of ghar wapsi is futile and silly, for their souls will be still yearning for Allah or Jesus.
Should Hinduism thrive on such false prestigeIJ It is time the Prime Minister checks some of the negative forces in the Sangh parivar. Else, he will fritter away the public mandate.
