Sir — This refers to the report, “Forces get free hand to silence Pak guns” (October 9). Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, after raising the Kashmir issue in the UN General Assembly and still failing to internationalise it, seems to have let loose the Pakistan Army to violate the ceasefire along the line of Control and the International Border. Else, he has lost control over his Army.
New Delhi has rightly directed the Indian forces to strongly retaliate. That Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not the person to toe an unduly soft line was clear by his Government’s cancellation of Foreign Secretary level talks with Islamabad. Islamabad and Rawalpindi need to realise that a full-fledged war between the two countries at this stage will be more devastating for Pakistan.
