Action time

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Big mockery of justice” (April 12). It is disheartening that a retired Indian Naval officer, Kulbhushan Jadhav, has been sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on grounds of espionage, sans any opportunity given to him to prove his innocence. The editorial has rightly pointed out that the celerity which Pakistan has shown in taking the strongest action in Jadhav’s case is not at all visible in the case of terrorists in its own country against whom plethora of evidences exist. The history of Pakistan is as bleak as its present. Its own Government head, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was executed on April 4, 1979, which tells much about its national security standing.

Setting aside the international request for reprieve; India has rightly expressed its anguish that if Jadhav is executed, it would be tantamount to “premeditated murder” and we must not sit idle as we did in Sarabjit’s case, when he was tortured to death in a Pakistan jail.
