Sir — This refers to the article, “Stark reality of future global warming” (December 14) by Kota Sriraj. The writer has painted a grim scenario that countries may have to face if action against global warming is not taken. While knowing it well that others are to be blamed for this disastrous situation and that the worse sinner has opted out of the most reasonable Paris Accord on Global Warming, there is absolutely no time for us to loose. While the cited study must compel us to act now, it is not only global warming which is worrisome but there are other attending threats which are equally calamitous, like spectres of repeated droughts in parts of India and elsewhere, unpredictable health hazards, unusual floods, uncontrollable wild fires, cyclones and harrowing fluctuations in weather never witnessed before.
Another study clearly warns that principal emitters really face extreme weather conditions as of now, citing cases of the US, China and India as has been recently witnessed. It clearly relates that besides global, local factors are as much important. What has the present dispensation done to face the situation could be commendable but too little too late. A massive effort to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and radical adoption of alternate sources of energy is our only option before the time runs out.
