Abusive language

This refers to the outrage over former BJP leader Dayashankar Singh’s derogatory remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati. Dayashankar Singh has apologised for his remarks and, therefore, the matter should have ended.

One wonders why the BSP did not react in a similar manner when a senior leader, while resigning from the party, reportedly said, “Mayawati Dalit nahi, daulat ki beti hai (Mayawati is not a Dalit’s daughter, but of wealth).

Similarly, a woman BSP leader announced a reward to anyone who brought her Dayashankar Singh’s tongue for his remarks against Mayawati. Neither the lady apologised for her statement nor the BSP supremo admonished her. Criticism of opponents needs to be done in parliamentary terms and it should not degenerate to abuses.
