Abusing powers

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Unpardonable conduct” (March 25). The incident where Shiv Sena MP, Ravindra Gaikwad assaulted an Air India official over seating issues not merely evokes moral outrage but invites the most stringent action against him. An FIR has already been launched but prosecution must be carried to the logical conclusion without any interference from political parties.

I admire the reaction of other airlines in banning this MP from their flight list. However, it is a sad reality of today that representatives of people, MPs, often misuse and abuse their position and behave in the most uncivilised manner. If the political party he represents has an iota of probity, he should have been suspended. But this is not the case.
