Sir — It would have been better had the Aam Aadmi Party won fewer seats in the Delhi Assembly. We would then not have had the spectacle of the AAP first refusing to take or give any support and then capitulate and agree to consider taking the Congress’s support if the ‘people desired’. The party could have maintained that it would forgive no wrongdoing of the ruling dispensation, of whatever colour. It could have also fulfilled its ambition to spread its wings to other States.
But now, the AAP is in a predicament. If it forms a Government with the Congress’s support, its credibility will vanish. If the AAP seeks support from the BJP, it will be subjected to sting operations from various groups. The motive of the Congress in extending support to the AAP is to deprive the BJP of the opportunity to form a Government in Delhi. The process of a referendum, which Mr Arvind Kejriwal’s party has now taken recourse to, is most unconvincing. You can’t keep going back to the people for every single decision that you have been mandated to take.
