This refers to the news report, “Experience wins over youth in rejig” (June 18). The reshuffle in Mr Manmohan Singh’s Council of Ministers is lacklustre and can be best described as old wine in an old bottle. It is just another feeble attempt by the ruling Congress to assuage the widespread anger among people due to bad governance, corruption, rising prices and steep cost of living. The reshuffle has nothing to do with positive administrative change in governance. The manner in which ministerial posts have been handed out shows a clear move to appease the electorate on the lines of caste and community in the forthcoming general election. There is a lack of vision and will to address the needs of common people reeling under the immense challenges of unemployment and lack of security.
The rejig also proves Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrong; he had said during an earlier reshuffle that it would be the last such exercise of his Council of Ministers before the 2014 poll.
