A self-styled explanation of freedom of expression

Published on:

This refers to the article, “‘Break India' is more than just discomfiting” (February 24) by Rajesh Singh. I fully endorse the writer’s disapproval of television journalist and author Rajdeep Sardesai's despicable defence of pro-Afzal Guru and anti-national brigade. Moreover, Mr Sardesai has even called himself an “anti-national”. legendary American golfer Payne Stewart said that, those who “disgrace” America and “burn our flag...I say don't live here...go, live in the Middle East and see how you like it”.

It will be difficult to explain anti-Indian sloganeering  India's ‘barbadi’(destruction) and championing of Afzal Guru  with Mr Sardesai’s self-styled expanded definition of freedom of expression. Is it proper for a senior journalist to justify seditious slogans by some students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University under the pretext of what happened at the Patiala House court premisesIJ No one is defending the unruly and offensive behaviour of a group of lawyers and the arrest of students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar.
