This refers to the article, “Collusion that spells trouble for India” (June 20) by G Parthasarathy. India needs a robust military policy and doctrine that is befitting its stature of a large nation of much strategic importance which is on the way to achieving high global economic status. It must also have the capability and power to support such doctrine.
In order to accomplish this goal, India has to be self-sufficient in certain strategic fields like nuclear triad missile. Cutting-edge space technology is also imperative for the country to assert itself and drive a hard bargain with China.
While India has almost reached that stage, it is still not quite there yet. In this case, a strategic partnership with Japan and the US might help until the country is ready to go it alone. The new Government has to prioritise its goals and I believe it is on the right track given how it is pursuing its military and monetary goals.
