A poignant narrative of traumatic times

This refers to the article, “When humanity died a thousand deaths” (August 15) by Vijay Kumar Malhotra. One appreciates the effort by the veteran BJP leader to share his horrifying and traumatic post-partition experiences with the readers of The Pioneer.

The article makes for gripping reading. It will surely strike a chord with numerous individuals who underwent similar trauma and, also serve as an important narrative of events of post-partition India. The article does well to dwell on the dubious role of some leaders who fuelled communal disharmony and tension.

One wonders if Jawaharlal Nehru was ever interested in protecting Hindus from the brutal genocide that was being systematically carried out. The article has rightly blamed the Congress for giving lahore to Pakistan as a gift. lahore could have been a part of India, but a leader who created the Kashmir problem, which even today shows no signs of being resolved, could not be expected to have integrated lahore with India.
