This refers to the editorial, “Strife within different streams of Islam” (July 8) by Makhan Saikia. It is unfortunate that innocent people are killed in terrorist attacks, the reasons are not difficult to comprehend — it is a commercial hub, has crowded landmarks, and is horizontal to communal tension. Enough has been said on the issue of terrorism without any desired result.
Perhaps, the time has come that all public gathering places, all over the world, have high security frisking. There should also be a complete ban on the entry of arms and ammunition, with special attention to in-house staff. Also, global powers must come together to thwart the terrorist network and remove their presence once and for all. What is needed is a better and improved intelligence systems, better coordination between investigating authorities. Only a firm course of action, rooted in secular convictions, can help.
