Sir — The withdrawal of the Chinese troops has surely given a breather to the Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government.
However, a question that is worth asking is: What clinched the deal that ended the Sino-Indian face-off since April 15IJ Was it New Delhi’s threat to cancel Union Minister for External Affairs Salman Khurshid’s planned visit to Beijing or is it a compromise wherein ‘sops’ were offered to the Chinese to withdraw from Indian territoryIJ
The threat to call off Mr Khurshid’s trip was a calculated risk, but a necessary one. And by taking that risk, New Delhi has, at least for now, forced a resolution of the crisis.
