Sir — This refers to the editorial, “End the debate” (August 14). The editorial is a clear reflection on the common man’s mind. At a time when the entire world is veering around newer technologies, it is but natural for India to welcome, adopt and adapt the same.
The paper ballot system was in vogue, we faced problems — everything was done manually, and this consumed more man-hours.
With the dawn of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), things have changed for the better and election results are announced in no time. like an idle man who blames his tools for poor workmanship, political parties lay the blame on EVMs. If they are not fool-proof, can the political parties say for sure that the ballot paper system too is devoid of errorsij
As pointed out in the editorial, EVMs can be fine-tuned so as to provide best results. Anyhow, all systems are susceptible to errors. Therefore, going back to the ballot paper system would amount to putting the clock back.
