Sir — This refers to theeditorial, “Wonder blunder boy” (June 25). Strangely, many big football teams have lost their first match in the ongoing World Cup in Russia but the two-time champion Argentina’s poor show sounds really shocking despite the legend Diego Maradona already expressing dissatisfaction over the team’s lack of preparedness for the quadrennial event in the wake of some injuries and form problems faced by lionel Messi’s side. Really, Argentina played a desperate game against Croatia that was marked by Messi’s countenance on the field.
Following Messi’s failure, Argentina now stands a slim chance of remaining in the race for the Cup, initially being among the favourites.
A timeless soccer wizard, lionel Messi’s poor show has shattered the hopes of thousands of his fans world over to the extent that one 30-year-old in Thiruvananthapuram, Dinu Alex, allegedly committed suicide following the team’s 0-3 humiliation by Croatia.
