Sir — The collapse of an under-construction bridge in Varanasi brought into focus the dangers inherent in a scenario when adequate safety measures are not in place on construction sites. Besides this, traffic management during the course of the construction of the bridge was shoddy. This is not the first occasion that an incident of this kind has taken place. It is also apparent that the material used for construction purpose was substandard. There might as well be some fault in the design of the bridge which led to the collapse of the bridge. The Government and concerned authorities must look into the safety aspect before giving the green signal for such constructions.
