Sir — This refers to the article, “Big data, bigger safety & privacy concerns” (April 21) by Navreet Rana. We must not forget that Facebook has been blamed by UN investigators for playing a crucial role in the spread of misinformation and hate-speech against Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar.
It is, therefore, a matter of grave concern when sometimes it is seen that half-truth, post-truth and no-truth are posted on social media to spread hatred against Dalits and minorities. Fake quotes and wrong factual claims that have been circulated on Facebook make even liberal upper caste people develop hatred for the lower castes after reading those fake items.
We need to check the veracity of such data with the help of books, Google search among others before accepting them as truth. There should be stringent laws and prompt execution of laws to arrest malicious propaganda and hate-speech against backward castes and communities.
