Playing politics

Published on:

Sir — It is unfortunate and a very sad day for the judiciary, in particular the Supreme Court, that the Opposition is mulling Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra’s impeachment.  Impeachment motion is done only in extreme rare and proven cases of corruption and in cases of high impropriety by a judge. Only about half a dozen of such moves have been initiated in the country till date.

It is a fact that our courts have become a play-thing for electoral politics. Judiciary in India has been by and large independent and has been the saviour for the common man. Hence, in the best interest of the country as well as the judiciary Opposition must pull back.
