Dubious agenda

Sir— This refers to the report, “Casteism breaks social harmony, get rid of it: Prez” (April 15). Caste/religion is integrated in our society for the past many centuries and instead of mitigating the disparities, our political/religious mandarins exacerbated the contrarieties, even imperilling unity and harmony of myriad societies.

It is a disgrace that political outfits are just concerned with their blanket supremacy than the development and security of the country. Religious bosses furtively work hand-in-glove with influential political leaders for benefits. On the contrary, mushrooming political outfits, including national parties, are also responsible for dividing the people on caste-based reasons, even jeopardising the broad interest of the nation.

The report that certain political/religious organisations outrageously rallied in support of the culprits allegedly involved in the recent Kathua outrage exposes the cannibalistic mindset of our leaders. Though we are a secular democratic republic, undoubtedly, many of our policies are against the secularism defined in the Constitution. Astoundingly, our political pundits are fully aware of this irony and yet feign ignorance  for reasons best known to them.
