Versatile actor

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Wonder Woman” (February 27). The name was enough. The form was instantly endearing. The action was brilliantly versatile. Her movies coruscated north and south. Her name is Sridevi — unarguably the effulgent ‘celluloid Devi’.

A child prodigy, who literally grew up in the lap of Telugu and Tamil film industries, went on to become a veritable lady superstar of the entire Indian film landscape. All of a sudden, she has left for a heavenly abode, leaving us sad and nostalgic.

Some people come, conquer our hearts and go away quickly. As a fan from the Telugu land, I proudly say that it was in Telugu that she acted the maximum number of films and continued to act in Telegu films till mid-1990s, compared with other languages in the South.

Telugu director K Raghavendra Rao, whom she venerates, had directed the maximum number (24) her movies.

Sridevi acted with two generations of heroes — right from NT Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Krishna to Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Balakrishna and Venkatesh. Will our Indian industry ever see such a cherubic and legendary thespian againIJ Emphatically not.
