Sir — The Prime Minister chose to focus on the pages in history brightened by Swami Vivekananda. One must understand the gradual and earnest attempt at the metamorphosis by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ideology towards a broader political entity within India’s diverse history and culture.

It already embraced Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel: Both very critical of ardent doctrine of the majority. In embracing the great Swamiji, the party could well be attracted to his principles of universality, an essential mindset to progressive governance. The BJP needs to learn to look beyond gross domestic product and electoral tally to imbibe as well as teach an impatient India the mantra of inclusiveness, both political and social.
