Sir — This refers to the article, “Queen of victimhood now in real trouble” (July 27) by Shreya Kedia. It’s a well analysed review of the situation, though a few points may be added. Mayawati’s Rajya Sabha term was to end soon. But the politically shrewd lalu Prasad promised to send her back to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar, and supported her resignation. Also in that event, Mayawati smartly projected herself as she has ‘sacrificed’ her seat for the Scheduled Castes in public eyes. This reminds us of Sonia Gandhi who heard her ‘inner voice’ and sacrificed the position, appointing Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister — but held the leverage of power with her. It is well known what happened to the Congress subsequently as a result of all this.
Now that Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) has joined hands with the BJP, lalu Prasad’s premature promise to appoint Mayawati again in the upper House seems pie in the sky. Politics is not only amazing but it is also amusing, as the failure of the mahagathbhandhan in Bihar has shown us.
