Taking responsibility

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Cricket as mood-setter” (June 20). The Indian cricket team lost badly to Pakistan in the final match of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy on June 18 at the Oval.

Various undertakings under the Central and State Governments race for awarding huge money and other public-assets to each member of Indian cricket team. But if our super-rich cricketers can be showered with enormous amount of award-money over and above normal match-fees, along with monthly and other allowances from public funds, then they should feel themselves duty-bound to return the gesture by donating adequate money for some public cause on each of the defeat the team encounters. The media should not over-project religious prayers by certain groups for the victory of the cricket team, since subsequent losses tend to shake the faith of religious people.
