Sir — World day against child labour is observed on June 12 to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour. Though a lot has been done towards this direction but we still have a long way to go. Economic compulsion forces many poor parents to send their children to work at traffic signals, to supplement the family’s meagre income.
When traffic signal turns red, one finds poor children knocking car windows, selling children’s books, but little do they realise that they themselves, engaged in child labour are like a caged bird. Without education these flower-like children will wilt before blooming. But who will rescue them and sow the seeds of education in themIJ If those smart children can target a prospect and sell in those 30 vital seconds (when signal turns red), they are intelligent enough to be imparted education and integrated into societal mainstream. But when will signal turn green in their livesIJ
