Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Real heroes of the nation” (May 2). Ace cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been in the news these days for reasons other than cricket. At a time when the country is mourning the death of precious lives of Army personnel, his patriotism-driven words and deeds have set an example for fellow cricketers and other celebrities to follow suit and speak up.
Actually, Gambhir’s gesture of volunteering to shoulder the responsibility of educating the children of Sukhma victims, through his foundation, has reached even further; imploring those born with silver spoon in their mouth to follow suit.
Given his newly-acquired status as a torch-bearer, he may also like to consider mobilising celebrity-studded cricket teams to engage themselves in friendly matches in selected cities for raising funds to help family members of victims of similar tragedies.
