Sir — This refers to the report, “lal batti culture red-flagged” (April 20). What the Cabinet took away from our VVIPs is not just the beacon light but also a slice of the VIP culture itself that disgustingly dominates our society. Two Chief Ministers, Yogi Adityanath and Capt Amarinder Singh of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab respectively, already ordered the removal of beacons the moment they occupied high positions.
Well, if this is the beginning, then more symbols of the raj era must go. This is democracy, not an autocracy. There are several invisible beacon lights of this black mass of power that should also die out. Hopefully, the Government will make the right moves, and not just the right noises.
