Welcome warning

Published on:
Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Stone-pelters must pay” (February 17). Perhaps for the first time an Indian Army chief has sent a message loud and clear that anti-terror activities in the border State will no more be tolerated.
It is unfortunate that some opposition parties have criticised Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat for his statement. At least the defence forces must be kept out of political attacks. Rather, politicians must take lessons from Israel, where political parties are strongly united on matters of national security.
Gen Rawat’s warning was much-needed to stop attacks by some misguided elements in Jammu & Kashmir, where separatist leaders are encouraging school children to indulge in stone-pelting rather than allowing the schools to open.
