Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Keeping Jallikattu alive” (January 24). The issue of Jallikattu was burning for a long time. Ultimately, it yielded to the persistent demand and sentiments of the masses — the Government in Tamil Nadu gave its nod to conduct the bull-taming sport.
Though this Ordinance paved the way to carry out the sport, it is disappointing that even now, the protestors are relentless, seeking ban of PETA and enactment of a law in lieu of the Ordinance.
While the game, in its very nature, is a cruelty against animals and there is every possibility of death or injury to those who indulge in it, it is strange that people in the State are adamant about it, in the name of culture and tradition.
