Good governance

Published on:

Sir — law-making by the legislature, implementation by the executive and delivery of justice as per the nation’s Constitution is what good governance is all about. Faithful reporting by the media, safeguarding the spirit of journalism and people’s whole-hearted participation for the coordinated working of the functionaries in the system for the welfare of citizens in their own interest make up for sustaining India’s democracy.

Decades of struggle by both unsung activists and leaders, with identity going with name and fame, ending in freedom from colonial rule, have tended to be undone as a result of unbridled betrayal by all concerned, barring exceptions.

What hurts the nation and its people all the more is the fact that there are no signs of damage control measures being taken by successive Governments as time passes, notwithstanding the official claims to the country’s overall progress.
