Sir — This refers to the report, “J&K Govt offers ex gratia to kin of Burhan Wani” (December 14). If the payment of ex-gratia to the kin of militants is not wrong, then maybe in the future, it may not be wrong to pay ex-gratia to the kin of all sorts of terrorists killed in an encounter.
The District-level Screening-cum-Consultative Committee (DlSCC) is said to have cleared ex-gratia relief in favour of the next of the kin of persons who died in militancy-related incidents. Those who died in such incidents are not innocent. Ex-gratia payment to supporters and sympathisers of militants sends out a wrong message. The Jammu & Kashmir regime must drop this idea.
