Corrupt officials

Sir — Income tax officials must be congratulated for seizing cash in new currency amounting to `4.7 crore in Bangalore during a raid on the residences of two engineers, working with the State Government. Perhaps, the nexus with bank officials is the reason why new notes have found their way into the residences of corrupt officials. 

In this connection, several bank officials have been suspended. The Government must set up an inquiry in this matter and those found guilty should be dismissed forthwith. The same treatment should be meted out to the top officers who amass huge sums of money. The reason for ATMs going dry is not far to seek, when crores of rupees had been rotting in the hands of a few.
