Revolutionary leader

Sir — In the death of Fidel Castro, Cuba’s former President, the world has lost a leader of the masses. He ruled Cuba for 50 years. This shows the love and affection he had for the people of his tiny nation. His service to his country is said be the longest one ever by any leader.

Castro brought Cuba out of distress, defying all odds. His speech in the United Nations on September 26, 1960, is a masterpiece. It is said to be the longest,  four-and-half hours address, by any leader. In his death, an era comes to an end.

Present day political leaders should take a cue from his life and work, and service the people without seeking profit.
