Sir — This refers to the report, “Note ban legalised plunder: Ex-PM” (November 25). It was astonishing to see former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accuse the Modi Government of “monumental mismanagement” and “organised loot” due to demonetisation, when, during his own 10-year stint, he did nothing to tackle the menace of black money and counterfeit currency.
His regime was pock-marked by a series of scandals which involved billions of rupees — 2G scam, coal scam, Commonwealth Games scam and more. This was due to his policy paralysis, incompetence and subservience to an unconstitutional authority.
In the Upper House, Singh spoke in a dull, halting manner, which was suggestive of the fact that he is still unwell. However, this time, Singh, who is often referred to as maun (silent) by some critics, seemed to be well prepared to unleash venom against his successor, who spearheaded the Congress’s monumental defeat in the 2014 lok Sabha election.
