Needless controversy

Sir — This refers to the article, “No-skin-in-the-game nationalism in obverse” (October 22) by Ashok Malik. I don’t think the Government ever said that it will put a blanket ban on Pakistani artistes. In fact, it was the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena which said that it would not allow Karan Johar’s movie to be released as it featured Pakistani actors.

Therefore, the frenzy created by a section of media around the movie was uncalled for. It is the Pakistani artistes who are looking for work in India, and not the other way around. There is no dearth of talent in our country. Rather, the film industry must remember that, if Pakistani artistes achieved success, the credit goes to the Indian fans.
