Sir — Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was amongst the most admired leaders when he was the Chief Minister of Goa. His simplicity was comparable to that of the Tripura Chief Minister.
However, his linking of the surgical strikes to his and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘RSS teaching’ is not in the interest of anyone, including the RSS, the Indian Army and he himself. That said, military operations cannot be done without political consent. It was good that information about the operation was made public by the Directorate General of Military Operations, rather than the political rulers.
