Amend law

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “The Arunachal story” (September 19). The political story of Arunachal Pradesh is shameful. The problem is with the anti-defection law which has many loopholes. If anti-defection laws are precise, then horse-trading should not happen. The apex court and the Election Commission of India must take cognizance of the situation and ask the Union Government to amend the anti-defection law.

Elected representatives should not be allowed to defect. If one or a group opts for defection, they should do so after resigning their respective seats and contest election afresh.
