Sir — This refers to the article, “Conquering malaria, the Sri lankan way” (September 13) by Namal Nawana. Elimination of malaria is a remarkable achievement not only for Sri lanka, but also for the Maldives. This explains why these two countries rank high in the human development index. Incidentally, Sri lanka’s achievement has come at a time when the national capital is grappling with a huge upsurge of mosquito-borne infections like chikungunya and dengue. The success of Sri lanka holds lessons for India. Also, it is the responsibility of the Government and the civil society to reach out to the marginalised communities to help fight malaria.
