This refers to the editorial, “Doping gun fired at Russia” (July 28). International Olympic Committee appointed Canadian lawyer, Richard Mc laren’s report has led to over 100 Russian athletes being banned for Rio Olympics.
The World Anti Doping Agency has also tightened its noose around those who reaped the harvest of gold in previous Olympics, using banned steroids, by preserving these medalists’ samples of the last 10 years. The use of banned steroids is not new in the quadrennial event, but the gigantic scale it has assumed is a matter of concern.
It is more appalling that the Russian Anti Doping Agency, instead of taking action against such defamed athletes is actually colluding with them to make its medals tally look larger than ever before. In this regard, it is praiseworthy that the National Anti Doping Agency has swiftly taken action against two Indian sportspersons, who were alleged to have used banned steroids, by deleting their names from the national squad.
