Sir — This refers to the article, “Empowering our farmers” (June 17) by Ajit Kumar. The article amply substantiates the necessity for safeguarding our agricultural sector. Undoubtedly, the world cannot exist sans agriculture and, therefore, neglecting or ignoring agriculture, particularly food crops, is indeed suicidal. It is also against the genuine benefit of the nation.
Political outfits are primarily interested about their unassailable hegemony of the country rather than the palpable development of the people. The policies of the hitherto Governments concerning agriculture are apparently rhetorical and the current dignity of our farmers who purely depend on agriculture for subsistence corroborates their hapless status.
