This refers to the editorial, “Bracing for an agitation” (June 7). It does not augur well for an organised community which controls the political landscape of Haryana to demand reservation.
The Jats must understand that the judiciary will stay any law that provides illogical reservation. It seems that the real purpose of this fight is to prove their ‘political superiority’ over ‘non-Jats’, and the demand for reservation is just a tool to bind the Jat community.
The Supreme Court has already made it clear that the State cannot ignore the report of the National Commission for Backward Classes which has found in its report that the Jat community is socially and politically strong and does not deserve any affirmative action from the State. The Government must not succumb to political pressure, and must ensure law and order.
