Sir — This refers to the report, “Maldharis seek backward caste status in Gujarat” (April 13). The Jat community’s demand for reservation in jobs and education in Haryana has prompted other communities, like the Patels and the Maldharis, to seek similar privileges.
The irrefutable reason for reservation is poverty; undeniably, poverty is not confined to any caste or religion. Our leaders, instead of eliminating the barbarous caste system, outrageously distort the constitutional provisions for their own benefit, forgetting about the genuine interest of the nation.
