An eye-opener

Sir — This refers to the article, “The Sheldon Pollock hold on Indian minds” (March 23) by Rajesh Singh. After having read Rajiv Malhotra’s book, The Battle for Sanskrit: Is Sanskrit Political or Sacred, Oppressive or liberating, Dead or AliveIJ, if any Indian does not close the book with a salute of gratitude to him, he is definitely disconnected from the “lived experience of himself and his ancestors.” Certainly, this is something that Sheldon Pollock, however great he may be, will never understand.
