This refers to the editorial, “Uncertainty bad for J&K” (February 9). The editorial has rightly underlined the fact that prolonged delay in Government formation in Jammu & Kashmir is unhealthy for the border State.
Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti has shown a reluctance to continue with the historic alliance that was forged by her father. She has insisted on confidence-building measures and has demanded fresh assurances from the BJP.
Ms Mehbooba Mufti is not realising that her posture implies that her alliance partner, the BJP, and the Modi Government, were not cooperative, but were causing problems for the smooth working of the coalition Government.
In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his frequent visits to the State and meetings with her father, had fully backed the Mufti’s Government with economic and political assistance. She is aware that a fresh poll will not help her.
It will be wiser for her to sort out the problems, if any, with the BJP leadership, to hasten the process of Government formation without any further delay.
