I had mistakenly written in my article, “After the murder of Cecil, the lion” (January 14) that an American dentist, Dr Walter Palmer, had killed Cecil, Zimbabwe’s iconic lion, illegally. The authorities in Zimbabwe have come to the conclusion, following an investigation, that the hunt was legal.

The hunt had triggered an international outcry and reportedly led the US Government to enact measures that severely restrict the import of lion trophies. Also, according to Zimbabwe’s Minister of Water, Environment and Climate, Ms Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Dr Palmer was now free to visit Zimbabwe as a tourist, but not as a hunter.
