Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Giving it another shot” (December 11). The India-Pakistan peace process has been an on-again-off-again process for several years. Yet, there is optimism following External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s announcement of a Composite Bilateral Dialogue.
Bilateral ties have picked up pace over the past couple of weeks. First, Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif met in Paris on November 30; this was followed by the meeting of NSAs and Foreign Secretaries in Bangkok. And then Ms Swaraj travelled to Pakistan for a regional summit but also held bilateral talks.
The Composite Bilateral Dialogue is a step forward for India and Pakistan. One hopes that eventually there will be lasting peace between the two.
