This refers to the report, “BJP-Cong spat gets murkier” (September 29). Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reference of how a corrupt politician and his extended family members made crores of rupees, besides getting contracts and flats, has rattled Congress adversaries. Mr Modi was seen as targeting the Congress dynasty, since he mentioned the word damaad (son-in-law) among the beneficiaries.
Congress spokespersons, with a clear element of guilt, did not bother to consider that Mr Modi’s example of corrupt politicians included cousins who benefited from corrupt practices, besides sons and daughters.
Sadly, their fury against Mr Modi assumed degrading proportions. leaders like Anand Sharma mocked Mr Modi for narrating his family’s poverty and his mother’s struggles, rejecting them as theatrics and untrue. Mr Modi was just replying to the Facebook founder’s question about his family.
